Bike MS: Valero Ride to the River

Saturday, October 3, 9 a.m. - Sunday, October 4, 9 p.m.

WHO & WHAT Bike MS: Valero Ride to the River, presented by H-E-B, celebrates its 26th Anniversary ride with a journey that travels through historic River Road in Gruene as it winds from San Antonio to New Braunfels. The ride is expected to attract nearly 1,300 cyclists to support the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and raise an estimated $1.4 million for cutting-edge research, programs and services benefiting thousands impacted by multiple sclerosis (MS). The two-day fundraising event taking place Oct. 3-4 starts at Wheatley Heights Sports Complex and finishes at Comal County Fair Grounds. Riders can choose different route options to make the route as challenging as they would like. Visit bikeMStx.org to register to cycle, volunteer or donate. The 2015 registration fee is $50 and is now open. Individuals interested in joining or creating a team can sign up online with co-workers, friends, family or neighbors. The Volunteer Services Council of the San Antonio State Hospital is opening their "Trinkets & Treasures Resale Shop” on October 06, 2015 between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm. Many gently used items are available at a very favorable price. • Women's, Men's, and Children's Clothing • Accessories / Shoes / Handbags • Bedroom and Kitchen Linens • Home Decor • Kitchen Items All proceeds benefit the patients at the San Antonio State Hospital (SASH). The Volunteer Service Council (VSC) of SASH is a 501 (c) 3 non profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life and support the rehabilitation and recreational needs of patients not funded through traditional government sources. Funds generated from this sale will support the various patient programs sponsored by the VSC of SASH.

Erasing Stigma, Changing Minds - Moving Into Mental Health Recovery

One in every four Americans has been diagnosed with a mental illness. Often the stigma attached to mental illness makes it challenging for those who need help to seek it. The San Antonio State Hospital and the Volunteer Services Council of the San Antonio State Hospital is hosting a monthly mental health community education series, “Erasing Stigma – Changing Minds.” Our speakers have graciously agreed to provide these presentations at no charge to you or the sponsoring organizations. We take this opportunity to publically thank them for their commitment to the patients and communities they serve.

2015 Joint Base San Antonio Air Show and Open House at JBSA-Randolph

Saturday, October 31, 9 a.m. - Sunday, November 1, 6 p.m.

Grab your friends and family and head over to the first air show and open house in San Antonio since 2011. The event is slated for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at JBSA-Randolph Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Headlining the schedule are the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, along with the Wings of Blue and U.S. Army's Golden Knights parachute teams. Along with 300 minutes of flying time, the show will also feature static displays and fun for all ages. You'll see the evolution of joint air power and the incredible advancements in technology that have occurred throughout the Air Force's extraordinary history. War birds representing each of those generations of Airmen will be on display, from World War II, Korea and Vietnam eras, to today's 5th Generation of remotely piloted aircraft, trainer, and fighter weapon systems." The free event is open to the public.
