Trinkets and Treasures Resale Shop Sale

Tuesday, February 3, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The Volunteer Services Council of the San Antonio State Hospital is opening their "Trinkets & Treasures Resale Shop” on February 3, 2015 between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm. Many gently used items are available at a very favorable price. • Women's, Men's ,and Children's Clothing • Accessories / Shoes / Handbags • Bedroom and Kitchen Linens • Home Decor • Kitchen Items All proceeds benefit the patients at the San Antonio State Hospital (SASH). The Volunteer Service Council (VSC) of SASH is a 501 (c) 3 non profit organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life and support the rehabilitation and recreational needs of patients not funded through traditional government sources. Funds generated from this sale will support the various patient programs sponsored by the VSC of SASH.

Al Travis Hymn Sing

Sunday, February 15, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

First Fine Arts presents organist Dr. Albert L. Travis in concert February 15 at 4:30 PM. The featured hymn sing will take place in the main sanctuary at First Baptist Church located at 515 McCullough. Admission is free and open to the public. Travis is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Organ at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served on the faculty of the School of Church Music from 1977-2008. Travis has been Organist of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth since 1978, and is currently serving as Organist and Director of Music Ministries, He plays the Rildia Bee O'Bryan Cliburn Organ, a gift from the Cliburn family. The Casavant organ has 191 ranks, and boasts the largest installation by the Canadian organ company. Travis has degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University, Syracuse University and The University of Michigan.

SOLI Chamber Ensemble

First Fine Arts Series presents SOLI on February 22, 2015 at 3 pm located at 515 McCullough in the Main Sanctuary. Admission is free and open to the public. Celebrating its 20th Anniversary this season, SOLI Chamber Ensemble has upheld its reputation for giving new voice to 20th and 21st century classical contemporary music and for its strong commitment to commissioning new works. Known for breathing life into the music of living composers, SOLI has twice been voted “Best Chamber Ensemble” by The San Antonio Current and continues to mesmerize audiences with its cutting edge performances around the country. Founded in 1994, San Antonio Texas based ensemble annually presents seasons of innovative programs and breaks down stereotypes linked with classical music by performing in art galleries and other intimate spaces, allowing audiences to get up close to the performers and the music and therefore enhancing their concert going experience. SOLI Chamber Ensemble has received numerous awards including 2013 CMA/ASCAP Adventurous Programming Award and grants from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, New Music USA’s Creative Connections, Meet the Composer, and the National Endowment for the Arts, The Russell Hill Rogers Fund for the Arts, the Argosy Foundation, The Tobin Endowment, the Cornyation Foundation, and the City of San Antonio, Office of Cultural Affairs, among others. The First Fine Arts Series is an extension of the cultural arts ministry of First Baptist Church of San Antonio which serves to bring the art and faith communities together.
