House Republicans Move Closer To Obama Lawsuit
Thursday, July 17
(Washington, DC) -- House Republicans are moving closer to suing President Obama for executive overreach. Opening a hearing of the House Rules Committee Wednesday, Texas Republican Pete Sessions accused the President of violating the separation of powers.
Republicans are furious about Obama's heightened use of executive actions. The President vows to continue working around Congress, whenever possible, through executive orders. He says the actions are necessary due to congressional inaction. The GOP lawsuit will focus on executive actions President Obama has taken involving implementation of the healthcare reform law.
New York Democrat Louise Slaughter called the planned lawsuit a partisan political exercise.
