(San Antonio, TX) -- SeaWorld is getting slammed for drugging its whales to calm them down before separating mothers from calves. A sworn affidavit that the website BuzzFeed got showed trainers gave at least three killer whales the active ingredient in Xanax, an anti-anxiety medication that people take. A SeaWorld spokesman told the site the use of these benzodiazepines is regulated and the medication is prescribed by veterinarians. Animal advocates, however, say giving the whales this medicine is inhumane and the whales are aggressive because they're in captivity.
