(Undated) -- First-time claims for unemployment benefits are mostly flat this week. This morning's figures from the Labor Department show 298-thousand Americans filing claims for benefits. That's down a thousand from the previous week's revised figure. The steepest increases in claims were in Georgia, Alabama, Connecticut, Hawaii and Iowa. The sharpest declines showed up in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan and Texas.
