Democrat “Beto” O’Rourke formally kicked off his 2020 presidential campaign over the weekend by declaring at a rally in El Paso, Texas, that immigrants and asylum seekers actually make the border town safe.

Breitbart reports as President Trump threatened last week to shut down the border with Mexico unless they work to stop the flow of migrant caravans coming to the U.S., O’Rourke called for an increase in immigration, telling supporters, We are safe because we are a city of immigrants and asylum seekers.”

In February, O’Rourke said during a MSNBC interview that not only does he not support building a border wall, but he would like to tear down any existing barriers at the southern border.
