Democratic Sen. Brian Schatz is set to introduce a constitutional amendment that would abolish the Electoral College in favor of electing presidents strictly by popular vote.

The Washington Examiner reports Schatz teased the amendment on Twitter Monday acknowledging that the notion will not become law anytime soon, but saying he was trying to “boost this issue.”

The push to nix the Electoral College comes as a number of Democratic presidential candidates, still bitter over the Clinton loss in 2016, continue to discuss the idea.

As Schatz admitted, it’s highly unlikely. It would need a two-thirds majority in the House and Senate, and three-quarters of the states would have to ratify.
